Jewish Wine Country

California Jewish wines started with Emmanuel Goldstein and Bernard Dreyfus, who planted the now famous Monte Rosso vineyards in 1885. Following were Ambassador Zellerbach who founded Hanzell Vineyards, and Hanns Kornell who opened his Sonoma winery in 1952. These pioneers, and the many who followed including those gathered today, have made significant contributions to the wine industry's development. How their seeds have grown!

Congregation Shir Shalom joyously honors Jewish winemakers of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys through our annual Jewish Winemakers' Tasting and Nosh (JWTN), featuring the wine, food, and music of our heritage. Dozens of winemakers and vineyards with connections to Jewish culture have supported this hugely successful event since its 2009 inception. In gratitude for their participation, CSS is proud to provide a gateway to Jewish Wine Country by providing a space for all visitors to learn more about these fine vintners.  Click on the logos below to find out more about their wines as well as the families and companies that produce them.

We have also listed email addresses for people that have poured at our events. Many of them have kindly offered discounts to our members so let them know you found them on the Shir Shalom site and they will do their best for you! Please support these wineries that have supported us!

Have you ever wondered about the world's oldest wine cellar?  Of course you have!  Well, here's your answer courtesy of Tablet "a new read on Jewish Life":  Naturally, It was found in Israel ...the original Jewish Wine Country.

The 2013 4th annual Jewish Winemakers Tasting and Nosh was held on Sunday, October 27th at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall.  It was a smashing success and huge fun for all that attended! Wine, food, music...and a fantastic array of silent auction items.  Thank you to all of our guests for your presence and contributions.

Wait... what?  Matzoball shooters? Gifilte Fish Sushi?
